CAYR Charity: Rossendale
Rossendale is a composition commissioned by CAYR (cayrcharity.org.uk/). The music is a response to artwork created during workshops with people in palliative care. The artwork represents the lived experience of those people, from aspects of their day to day life right through to more abstract depictions of their relationships with the community that is supporting them through this unique moment in life.
The medium for the visual art is chalk marker on perspex sheets which are then slid into a lightbox which can house up to four distinct layers simultaneously - therein creating a representation of the overlap or shared experience of multiple people.
Similarly the music comprises four distinct layers which can be heard in isolation or together with any other layer. It is a response to the artwork created during the workshops and aims to take listeners on a journey through the thoughts, feelings and characters of the workshop attendees.
